With a park as plain and ordinary as Pete Vonachen Stadium, there is little wonder why Peoria built a new park. Though by no means is this a horrible park either. It just appears to be a typical 80's era stadium that lacks any charm whatsoever. It would appear that renovations could be done to this park to make it a better facility, but the city has no interest in going this route. While the seating sections here are gently sloped and allow for good sightlines, the large foul territory negates this. Also the fact that there is no covering here must make for a scary situation in a thunderstorm. The park itself is located in a residential area and is visible from the nearby highway. I have not seen a game here so can't comment on the actual ballgame experience. Peoria's new ballpark opened in mid-season 2002. After pro baseball left, Vonachen Stadium was converted into a soccer stadium for use by Bradley University.
