Stater Bros. Stadium has been called by some an "oasis" in the middle of the desert. And I think that's a pretty accurate description. Depending on the route you take in, you may see some of the most desolate land in the country. It is pretty remarkable that baseball has survived in the middle of the desert. I was unable to get inside Stater Bros. Stadium on my visit here in 2008, but it looks to be a fairly standard 1990's ballpark. There have been rumors floating that the Mavericks could be one of two California League teams (the other being Bakersfield) shifted to the Carolina League for the 2010 season. While it didn't happen in 2010, it finally will happen in 2017. After disputes between the team and the city, it was only a matter of time. After the Cal League team left, the Pecos League put a team here starting in 2017. That team went defunct before the 2021 season.
