Bleecker Stadium was the temporary home of the
Albany-Colonie A's in 1982 while they were waiting for
Heritage Park
to be completed. The baseball field is part of a sports complex that
also features a football stadium. Interestingly, it is located where
an above-ground reservoir was situated in the 19th century. Because
of this, the whole complex is enclosed by 15-20 foot embankment. The
baseball park features cement seating built into the embankment. Apparently
the field still gets plenty of use by college and semi-pro teams. While
it would never be suitable for professional baseball now, it certainly would
have been in the early 1980's when it did play host. Bleecker Stadium
doesn't have much historical significance, but is a neat park worth checking
out if you're in the area. Renovations may be forthcoming as there has been problems with some of the concrete crumbling in recent years.
