Memorial Stadium was an
adequate baseball park, but in no sense a classic. It served its
purpose for over 40 years, but one can't blame the Orioles for wanting
a new park. Memorial Stadium was not the easiest park to get to.
It was located in the northern part of the city in a very residential area.
While the park was also used for football, it was configured well for baseball.
Most of the lower deck seats provided a good view of the field, except
those that were under cover where numerous poles obstructed the view.
The concourse was located underneath the seating area. It was dark
and somewhat narrow. But about what you'd expect from a park built
in the 50's. Overall, a nice enough place to see a game, but had
nothing unique or memorable to make it stand out. Memorial Stadium was demolished in 2001, but its memory lives on as a youth field was built in its place in 2010. The last two photos above show the present day site.
