Howie Minas Field was used in 1998 to host the Cook County Cheetahs of the now defunct Heartland League. As with many of the parks used in the early days of independent baseball, it was simply not adequate for the professional level. The park is tucked away in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Wooden bleachers make up all of the seating. After the Heartland League folded, the Cheetahs switched to the Frontier League and moved into the brand new Standard Bank Stadium in nearby Crestwood, where they still play today.
