The Louisiana Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints football team, was also home to a minor league baseball team for one season, 1977. The New Orleans Pelicans of the American Association played here that year and brought in over 200,000 fans, good enough for second in the league. But this was only a temporary home as the team left for Springfield, Illinois the following season. Baseball would not return to New Orleans until 1993 when the Denver Zephyrs moved here. But the Zephyrs would not call the Superdome home. Having never seen the Superdome configured for baseball, I can only imagine that it wasn't a great place to see a game.
