Newman Field, located on the campus of Catawba College, hosted minor league baseball in the South Atlantic and Tar Heel Leagues from 1937-1968. It features a small covered grandstand behind home plate, which from the exterior does not appear to be in the best condition. The playing field, however, appears to be in immaculate condition. And the outfield fence also appears to have been recently fixed up. Apparently Newman Field still gets plenty of use from college and amateur teams. With a few renovations, this park could probably host pro baseball again, but with North Carolina already loaded with teams, it appears unlikely that will ever happen. Unfortunately, I was unable to get inside to take better photos.
