Sanford Memorial Stadium was built as the spring training home for the New York Giants in 1951. It also served as the spring home for the Boston Braves in the 1950's. Extensive renovations completed in 2001 (over $2 million worth) fixed the grandstand, the exterior, the roof, and the clubhouses. Currently the ballpark is used by amateur teams and a collegiate league summer team. The original Sanford ballpark, which opened in 1926, was located adjacent to the current facility. Professional baseball returned here in late '09 when the Seminole County Naturals of the Florida Winter Baseball League played briefly before the whole league folded.
