Duncan Park was home to a South Atlantic franchise for many years until they left for Kannapolis after the 1994 season. An independent league team then used it for the 1995 season, but since then it has not seen pro baseball. Fortunately, Duncan Park still gets plenty of use by amateur and summer collegiate teams. The covered grandstand and bucolic setting evoke memories of the way the minor leagues used to be. While the ballpark is beginning to deteriorate some, hopefully enough maintenance will be done to keep Duncan Park around for many more years. It is one of the few ballpark gems remaining in this country. Unfortunately, its days may be numbered now after the city has refused to continue upkeep on it. A group, Friends of Duncan Park, has been formed to try to keep the ballpark standing. Here's hoping they are successful.
