| Midway Stadium was home to the most well know of all the independent league teams - the St. Paul Saints. They certainly did not become popular because of their stadium, however. The Saints have done a decent job trying to spruce this park up, but there is only so much that can be done. It is exclusively made up of bleachers with backs that are very cramped. Most of the seats are also a ways from the field. There really are no great seats at Midway. The concession stands are located at each end of the uncovered grandstand, as well as in the picnic area down the left field line, and in the concourse area under the grandstand. The concourse area is immediately as you enter the park. There is a concession stand located here. To get to the seats you must walk up a flight of stairs and then around a narrow walkway that surrounds the outside of the park. There is a rather ordinary scoreboard located in left-center. The Saints are about entertainment rather than baseball, though. So they do numerous on field contests throughout the game. The P.A. announcer also provides a lot of entertainment for the fans with his great sense of humor and wit. The fans really do not seem to be interested much in the game, though. The night I was there, some resorted to reading newspapers by the 6th inning. Parking is located in a lot (for $2) and along the street. Fans get to the park very early to enjoy barbecues, and stay afterward for a while as well. It's quite clear that fans are not here to watch baseball. One aspect that was quite upsetting was the fact that smoking was allowed everywhere in the park. It is so rare to see this nowadays, and don't know why the Saints insist on this policy. Certainly not an ideal place to see a game if you are coming for the baseball. The Saints played their final game here in 2014 and moved into a brand new downtown ballpark in 2015. It will be interesting to see if the same over-the-top atmosphere still exists at the new park. Midway Stadium was demolished in the summer of 2015.
