Mike Carter Field was most recently used for professional baseball by the Tyler Roughnecks of the short lived All-American Association in 2001. Prior to that, the Tyler Wildcatters of the Texas-Louisiana League had called this park home for 4 years in the 1990's. The park features a small covered grandstand behind home plate and two large bleacher sections down each line. Except for a few rows of fold down chairs, all the seating is metal benches. While the park dates back to 1938, renovations were done in 1990, so it is unclear how much of the original park remains - perhaps just the brick facade on the grandstand and bleacher sections. It is a bit puzzling why Tyler doesn't currently have pro ball - the city supported it fairly well in the past and certainly has a big enough population base. In the meantime, Carter Field seems to be getting plenty of use by amateur teams. But it sure would be nice to see some league give this ballpark another chance at minor league baseball.
