Riverfront Stadium was formerly the home of a Midwest League franchise. It last hosted professional baseball in 1993, when the Waterloo Diamonds called this park home. Currently, it is home to the Waterloo Bucks, a college league team in the Northwoods League. While I was unable to get inside on my visit here, it appears to be a gem of a ballpark that is still well maintained. The grandstand behind homeplate is mostly covered and features a couple hundred box seats. The rest of the seating is made up of bleachers. Riverfront Stadium (formerly known as Municipal Stadium) is also the subject of a great book, Waterloo Diamonds, which focuses on the front office staff during the team's final season here. While it probably will never host pro ball again, it is great to hear that college league ball is thriving in Waterloo. This should guarantee that Riverfront Stadium will be around for many years to come.
