Brooks Field, located on the campus of UNC-Wilmington, has twice hosted professional baseball. For two seasons (1995-96), it was home to the Port City Roosters of the Southern League. Then in 2001, the Wilmington Waves of the South Atlantic League played here. While pro ball will probably never be played here again, it is a perfectly suitable college ballpark. Wilmington did try to bring the Lynchburg Hillcats here in 2014, but a new ballpark referendum was rejected by the voters. It does seem like a big enough city to have a team, but won't get one without building a new park.
