Breese Stevens Field, located just north of downtown (and in view of the state capitol building), was last home to minor league baseball in the 1940's when the Madison Blues of the Triple-I League played here. While no longer used for baseball, it apparently still gets plenty of use as a soccer and football venue. The grandstand features a small covered section (which would have been used mostly for baseball) as well as a long, uncovered section to be used for soccer and football. Seating is all wooden benches. One interesting feature of the park is the stone wall that surrounds the it. This was erected in 1934, nine years after the park opened. While unfortunately not being used for baseball any longer, it is still nice to see that an old ballpark like Breese Stevens Field is being preserved. It is definitely worth a look if you're in the area.
