Eagle Stadium was host to a professional team for a short time in 2002. The Ozark Patriots of the independent Southeastern League played here before folding midway through the season. Professional baseball was also played here in the 1940's and 1950's as part of the Alabama-Florida League. The park features a very small, covered grandstand, that contains all bench seating. There are also some metal bleachers down each line. The dimensions of the field are huge here as center field is 440 feet from home plate. Eagle Stadium is set in a residential neighborhood and has a nice facade that faces the street. While it was great to see professional baseball return here in 2002, it seems unlikely that it will ever get another chance. The area is just not large enough to support a team. Still, Eagle Stadium is a nice reminder of what the minor leagues were like 50 years ago when numerous small communities each had a team to call their own. It is certainly worth checking out this piece of baseball history if you are in the area.
