East Field was most recently home of the
Adirondack LumberJacks of the independent Northern League (formerly the
Northeast League). It was also once home to the Double-A affiliates of the White
Sox and Tigers. It was dubbed the "Lumber Yard" while the LumberJacks
were playing here as part of the Northern League. There are individual plastic seats behind
home plate, and backless bleachers along both lines. Also, there are bleachers
in the outfield which is an odd site at a minor league park. The grandstand
behind home plate is uncovered. The covered concourse area is behind the
bleachers and offers a couple of concession stands as well as a souvenir
stand. A new scoreboard with a small message board was added sometime in
the late 1990's. Like most every minor league team, the Lumberjacks
had a mascot, Jack Timber. His appearances were limited, though, and he
did not seem to distract fans from the game being played. The PA announcer
was lively, having copied many of the antics/promotions/sound bites from
Rick Zolzer, the PA announcer at Hudson Valley. It's no coincidence, however,
as they both work for the same entertainment company. Between inning promotions
were numerous here - at least one every half inning. East Field probably
most resembles Baxter Park (Mountaindale, NY) - both which were once good enough for the Northern
League, but neither of which will probably host pro ball again.
