This "ballpark" was home to Merrillville Muddogs of the Mid-American League, a short lived independent league. The team and the league lasted just one season - 1995. Surprisingly, the Muddogs were the best draw in the league. Not sure if this goes to show that Merrillville supported their team or if it just proves how pathetic this league must have been. In any case, this is not a suitable park for professional baseball. As the name indicates, it is a high school field and no more. Fortunately, the people of Merrillville now have another option for pro baseball - the Gary Southshore Railcats play in brand new US Steel Ballpark, just a 15 minute ride away.
