Riverside Stadium (now named Metro Bank Park) is home of the Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. Though certainly not one of the nicer parks in the league, its scenic location does make up some for the atmosphere the park is lacking. Set on an island off the city, its location is very unique. The only problem with this seems to be the problem with many bugs at night. The park itself is very ordinary. A metal covered grandstand sits behind homeplate with metal bleachers down both lines. The only box seats are situated down both lines, but are only about 5 rows deep. There is a concourse area behind homeplate that has two large concession stands, a grill area on the first base side, and several other kiosks. Food options are well varied and prices quite reasonable. I especially love the specialty hot dog stand which serves dogs with numerous types of toppings. Before the 2009 season extensive renovations began to Metro Bank Park. The first phase included adding an outfield concourse which includes bleacher seats, several picnic areas, a new scoreboard, and two new concession areas. In addition, a row of bar seats was added along most of the outfield fence – a very nice touch and not something seen at many minor league parks. After the '09 season, the grandstand is scheduled to be torn down and completely replaced. This should be ready in time for the start of the 2010 season. If the renovation is as extensive as it appears in the renderings, then the “new” Metro Bank Park will actually be considered a different ballpark. But I will hold off judgment on that until I see it in person. Certainly the original Metro Bank Park was one of the worst parks in the Eastern League. It is amazing it took so long to do the renovations, but once complete, I'm sure it will no longer rank near the bottom. I am eagerly anticipating my 2010 visit.
