It's hard to believe that the state of Maine used to host Triple A baseball, but they did. And The Ballpark was where it was played. Ten years before the Portland Sea Dogs came to Maine, the Indians and Phillies had their Triple A teams here. The Ballpark is a rather plain park which wouldn't even be suitable for Double A baseball today. The grandstand is completely uncovered. The clubhouses were located in a separate building which forced the players to walk right through the concourse area. This made it a great park to get autographs at. But The Ballpark is probably best know for two other aspects. First, the flies were terrible here during the summer. Secondly, getting out of the parking lot was a mess as there was only one road out. It's really amazing that a team lasted here 5 years given the poor facility. After years of neglect, The Ballpark finally received some sprucing up in 2009 thanks to a volunteer effort. Amateur games were played here in 2010 and starting in 2011, an NECBL team started playing here, but folded after the 2014 season. In 2015, a professional team in the North County League played here. That league folded after just one season, but a new league (Empire) replaced it and continued to field a team here through the 2018 season.
