War Memorial Stadium, which hosted professional football and baseball for many years, is probably best known as the filming location of the movie The Natural. It served as the home ballpark for the Buffalo Bisons from 1961 until 1987, after which the Bisons moved to Pilot Field in downtown Buffalo. It is pretty amazing to think that such a huge stadium (capacity was over 46,000) stood in a residential section of town. While none of the seating bowl remains, two of the entrances on one end were kept after the ballpark was razed in 1988. The land where the stadium once stood now serves as high school athletic fields - both a football field and baseball diamond are located on the old site. While there are no historical markers to let passers-by know what was once here, it is still worth a visit if you are ever in Buffalo.
