Quigley Stadium is another great example of how far minor league ballparks have come since the 1980's. To think that this place ever hosted AA baseball seems ridiculous now. But it did - from 1973-1981 Quigley Stadium was home to the West Haven Yankees/Athletics/White Caps in the Eastern League. I haven't seen pictures of the park from when it last hosted professional baseball, but apparently the structure was different than what exists now. A blue wooden grandstand stretched from first base to third base. But it was deemed unsafe in the late 1980's and replaced with the current metal structure, which is more suited for football than baseball. Currently, most of the seating is provided by large metal bleachers on the third base side. There is also some bleacher seating on the first base side as well as three rows of benches directly behind the backstop. The park is situated in a residential area, just a couple miles away from Yale Field. It still receives some use from college and other amateur teams. But will surely never see another professional team.
