Hicks Field was last used for professional baseball in the early 1950's as part of the old Coastal Plain League. Now it is once again part of this same league , although this time it is just a summer college league. The park has a very small covered grandstand behind home plate and bleacher sections down each line. All the seating is backless wooden benches. The park received some renovations in 1997, including the new bleacher sections, a refurbished grandstand, and a new press box. Supposedly, the grandstand looks much how it did when the park was originally built. A manually operated scoreboard was also erected recently and adds to the old time feel of the park. While it will never host professional ball again, it's good to know that this cozy old ballpark is still in use.
