With the opening of QuikTrip Park, Grand Prairie became the latest Dallas suburb to get its own minor league team. Located in between Dallas and Fort Worth, and just a few miles from The Ballpark at Arlington, QuikTrip Park does not break any new ground in terms of ballpark architecture. It most resembles Campanelli Stadium in Brockton with its red seats and metal suite level. Despite a huge population base and a brand new ballpark, Grand Prairie has not been a great draw in its first season. I was not able to get into QuikTrip Park on my 2008 visit. In 2016, Grand Prairie shared the AirHogs with Amarillo - both teams hosting 25 games. This does not bode well for the future of professional baseball here. With weak attendance numbers in recent years, 2016 could be the last season for the AirHogs. Professional baseball did last here thru 2019, but starting in 2021 it was planned to be turned into a cricket venue.
